#2wTREE_004 - Green Ink on an Envelope.

Architect Chan Sau Yan Sonny.
“We, architects, are always fighting with clients to get architecture in which we believe and, in this case, it was easier because the client had the background enough to understand my architectural concerns” said Sonny Chan (Malaysia, 1941) when describing his relationship with the client, his son, of Ewart Park, Singapore during the design process of the home.

An extraordinary work which acts as proof that each individual of the team would feel he or she was undertaking important work as part of an overall vision. A house that inspires innovation and improves architectural concepts that are already there, waiting to be borrow and make them his own. Not so many works have the ability to inspire people to new heights, that is perhaps the greatest strength in this houses design.

The field of architecture is constantly dealing with complex problems, the architect Sonny Chan built the success of this house on taking that complexity, mastering it, simplifying it for the client and selling it to him in a beautiful form. It is a pleasure for clients, architects, comentators and enthusiasts to gather to celebrate and debate one of the latest company´s output, his book: Green Ink on an Envelope, the architectural practice of Chan Sau Yan Sonny.

2wTree had the opportunity to have a chat with someone who thinks “outside the box”, someone who wants to use architecture to change the world creating things that make a difference, and not just to get a proper job done.
